NEW ORLEANS—Joie de Vivre Hotels is set to open The Troubadour, its first hotel here in the fall.

Debuting in a 17-story landmark building in the Central Business District, the 184-room boutique hotel is being brought to life as a result of a partnership between Slumber Corners, the hotel’s owners; Commune Hotels & Resorts; Chef Phillip Lopez; Campo Architects; and interior design firm Paletteur.

“This city brings alive our brand and its ‘Joy of Life’ ethos. The Troubadour will offer guests an exciting range of modern and locally rooted experiences in an eclectic, Southern-inspired setting that we hope will become a part of New Orleans’ storied history,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts.

The property is close to the French Quarter, BioDistrict, historic Garden District and Warehouse District.

Originally developed as an office building, The Troubadour’s home at 1111 Gravier St., was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places. Campo Architects and Paletteur collaborated on the hotel’s design, keeping the building’s integrity intact while creating a contemporary atmosphere. Paletteur utilized a range of materials throughout the building, focusing on the combination of a warm palette with patina finishes and geometric patterns.

Paying homage to the landmarked building, the first floor will be centered around an original staircase, which will lead to the second-floor lounge, as well as meeting rooms “Highball” and “Snifter”—a nod to the culture of New Orleans.

Each of the 184 guestrooms and suites will feature a modern aesthetic with subtle touches of New Orleans mysticism, music and local culture; full-length windows; retro-style refrigerators, mini bars with locally sourced items and two-person bar tops for in-room cocktails; as well as bathrooms with bold tiles, playful sconces and Jonathan Adler custom-scented bath amenities—part of a new Joie de Vivre Hotels’ brand partnership, according to the company.

With Chef Phillip Lopez—executive chef, co-owner of Root, Square Root, The Test Kitchen, and Part & Parcel Delicatessen—at the helm, the property will feature three new F&B concepts: Petit Lion, Lobby Lounge and Monkey Board. Chef Lopez has also tapped local bartender T. Cole Newton to design The Troubadour’s cocktail program.
