NEW YORK—Jamal Ahmad “Jimmy” Sarfraz, a veteran of hotel operations in Europe, the Middle East and America, has been appointed general manager of the 569-room Millenium Hilton hotel located adjacent to the World Trade Center site.
Sarfraz, whose hospitality career spans more than 20 years, previously was resident manager of the 463 all-suite Conrad New York in Battery Park City.
“Jimmy’s leadership and expertise in operations and management of some of the world’s finest luxury and upscale hotels, coupled with his strong commitment to guest-service excellence, will be instrumental in guiding the Millenium Hilton’s continued success as a leading upscale hotel in New York City,” stated Ted Ratcliff, SVP/operations, eastern North America, Hilton Worldwide. “His familiarity with the downtown (lower Manhattan) neighborhood given his recent position at the Conrad New York is a key asset and will serve him well as he embarks upon his new role.”
From 2010 to 2011, Sarfraz was director of operations at Hilton Park Lane in London, responsible for day-to-day operations and a $20 million refurbishment of guestrooms and public spaces. From 2007 to 2009, he was director of operations at Hilton Malta, St. Julians, Malta.
Earlier in his career, he served in leadership and operational roles at the Hampshire Hotel, Hotel Arena, Bilderberg Hotel Oosterbeek, Bilderberg Residence Groot Heideborgh, Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel and various Sheraton hotels, all in The Netherlands, and the Sheraton Karachi Hotel & Towers in Pakistan.
The Millenium Hilton is situated in the Financial District and within walking distance to Wall St., the New York Stock Exchange and the World Trade Center site. The hotel also is located near many historic downtown New York landmarks including City Hall, Fraunces Tavern and Trinity Church.
In 2012, the hotel completed a major renovation program and redesign of its public spaces including lobby, lobby bar and restaurant. Hotel facilities include a 40-foot indoor heated pool, fitness center and Presidential Suite featuring 1,000 sq. ft. of function space.
