LONDON—InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has signed the Hotel Indigo Berlin City – East Side, Germany.  The new-build hotel will be owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and will operate under a franchise agreement with multiple development agreement (MDA) partner Tristar Hotel Group. This hotel will be the eighth development under IHG’s MDA agreement with Tristar.

Opening in fall 2017, the hotel joins Hotel Indigo Berlin – Alexanderplatz and Hotel Indigo® Berlin – Ku’damm in Germany’s culture capital. The property will feature 119 rooms, a gym, a restaurant and a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace, and is within walking distance of Berlin’s Warschauer Strasse and Ostbahnhof train stations.

The hotel will be located in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and will be part of Mercedes Platz, a complex located opposite the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Mercedes Platz, also owned by AEG, will feature numerous restaurants and bars, a 4,000-capacity event hall and a state-of-the art movie theater.

René Schappner, director of development, Germany, IHG said: “The signing of this hotel emphasizes IHG’s position as a clear market leader in the boutique hotel segment.  It’s fantastic to be expanding our Hotel Indigo brand in Berlin; a city with numerous vibrant and distinct neighborhoods which make perfect hosts for this brand.  We’re also delighted to be signing our eighth deal as part of a multiple development agreement with Tristar.”

Michael Kötter, VP real estate & development, AEG, said: “It was clear from day one that a boutique hotel was the smart choice for this location. IHG and Tristar are absolutely the right partners for the project. With Tristar’s successful track record in hotel operations and the quality Hotel Indigo brand in place, this hotel will further strengthen the attractiveness of Mercedes Platz.”
