STOCKHOLM—When the city of Stockholm renovates and expands Östermalm’s Saluhall Food Hall this year, a new hotel will also be built in an adjoining property which will be operated by Hotel Diplomat. The new hotel will be built adjacent to the Food Hall and have several restaurants, a food bar, a cocktail bar and its own deli.

“It feels both natural and exciting to be part of the creation of a new and attractive venue in an area where we, as a family, have been running a hotel and restaurant business for four generations. Here, we are building a modern hotel that will be part of Östermalm’s Saluhall. The location, the range of services on offer, and the surroundings will attract both national and international guests and customers to the Food Hall. The hotel will be more a lifestyle hotel, targeting guests who seek a lively environment with a focus on accommodation, food and a thriving ambience in the middle of beautiful Stockholm. The renovation of the entire neighborhood around Östermalmstorg (Östermalm Square) creates an attractive place to establish a sister hotel in a growing Stockholm,” said Anna Cappelen, chairman and co-owner of Hotel Diplomat.

The new hotel will have 71 rooms and suites with modern furnishings, new technology, conference facilities and a spa. Cappelen said the restaurant will offer organic and locally grown produce.

“We’re very excited about this joint venture. Hotel Diplomat has come up with a concept that will complement and strengthen Östermalm’s Saluhall’s image. The new hotel will have a strong focus on dining and, precisely like the Food Hall, will be associated with a long tradition of high quality services and expertise,” said Jan Valeskog, chairman of Stockholm’s City Real Estate Committee.

The Hotel Diplomat Stockholm is privately owned and run by the fourth generation Malmström family. The group includes the Hotel Diplomat and the restaurant T/BAR on Strandvägen in Stockholm.
