Hong Kong Tourism, Occupancy Strong

HONG KONG The number of visitors to Hong Kong rose 7.2% to 1.12 million in November compared with the same month last year, according to the Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA). Average hotel room occupancy for November was 89%. For the first 11 months of the year, total occupancy averaged 83% compared with 79% for the same period in 1999.

The number of visitors during the January to November period rose 15% year-on-year to 11.83 million, in line with estimates. The HKTA said it expected the total number of arrivals for 2000 to be close to the record number of 12.97 million set in 1996. (1/2/01)
