Hong Kong Hotel Goes 100% Smoke-Free

Hong Kong – The Cosmo Hotel here, in response to guest concerns, has gone completely smoke-free as of August 1, 2010, making it the first four-star hotel in Hong Kong to do so. The policy applies to all guest rooms and indoor spaces throughout the hotel.

According to the hotel, this decision was made because it felt offering a choice of smoking/non-smoking room is no longer adequate as third hand smoke – the residue of tobacco smoke that settles in the air even after a cigarette has been extinguished – affects human health on an equal level. It also felt that, since all the rooms share the same ventilation system and central air conditioning unit, particles infused with smoke were transferred throughout the hotel, making a total ban necessary.
