NEW ORLEANS—HRI Properties recently began construction on the site of the future Homewood Suites New Orleans French Quarter. Construction on the property began in December, with a targeted opening date of second quarter 2017. HRI Lodging, an affiliate of HRI Properties, will manage the hotel under a franchise agreement from Hilton Hotels.

The Homewood Suites New Orleans French Quarter is a new-build, 207-room extended-stay hotel featuring one- and two-bedroom suites that are equipped with a full kitchen including refrigerators and dishwashers. Amenities include valet parking, meetings space, a business center, swimming pool and fitness facilities.

Located on Rampart St., adjacent to the French Quarter, the property is a short walk to Jackson Square, Bourbon St., the Central Business District and the Saenger Theater, according to HRI Properties.

“Today’s traveler is seeking authentic experiences,” said HRI President and COO Tom Leonhard. “Our close proximity to the French Quarter, the heart and soul of our city, provides our future guests with a truly authentic, world-renowned playground within steps of their all-suite hotel.”

The $40-million project is another advancement of HRI’s ongoing Bienville Basin Choice Neighborhoods revitalization of the former Iberville public housing complex. Originally the site of the famous Storyville neighborhood, the area was widely regarded as the “birth place of jazz” and was home to famous musicians including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, and Pops Foster, according to the company.
