TOAS, NM—Heritage Hotels and Resorts, Inc. has opened Palacio de Marquesa, an upscale, eight-room inn located here. The inn pays tribute to famous female artists, who have lived in Taos.
Located a few blocks from Taos Plaza, the inn offers guests luxury private rooms and bathrooms,. The southwestern style inn is designed with contemporary touches including brushed-metal canopy beds with Frette linens, modern furnishings, northern New Mexican original woven bed throws from Chimayo, Saltillo tiles and viga wood ceilings. The rooms, decorated in ivory and silver, offer flat-screen TVs, private fireplaces and luxurious marble bathrooms.
Gourmet breakfasts, made-to-order, are offered in the Community room or delivered to guest rooms in a basket. The Community Room is made up of a living room, dining room, seating areas, two fireplaces and a small library. Activities, demonstrations and classes including health and wellness, cooking and art classes are offered on a seasonal basis in the communal room or in the high desert garden. The inn also offers private picnic lunches for guests who opt to explore Taos or the surrounding areas.
The design of the newly remodeled inn pays tribute to the stories of the women of Taos. The town of Taos began drawing artists in the early 1900s. A number of notable female artists including Millicent Rogers, Mable Dodge Luhan, Agnes Martin and Georgia O’Keefe. Each of the eight rooms has adopted a Taos patron and the rooms design and theme honors the vision and contributions of that particular woman. Every detail from incorporating the artist’s signature elements, such as turquoise and fur, to hanging prints of the artists work in the rooms have been thoughtfully planned out by the hotel’s signature designer, Adriana Long.
“We wanted to create something unique for guests in Taos. A place that celebrates the remarkable women artists that Taos is so well known for,” said Adriana Long, interior designer, Heritage Hotels & Resorts. “We’ve created a luxury retreat, that blends original art, southwestern culture, contemporary design and modern accommodations in one of the most beautiful mountain havens in the country.”
