CANCUN, MEXICO—Club Med Cancun Yucatan this weekend unveiled the latest in a series of major enhancements. Some $14 million in renovations spans 22 acres on the Mayan Peninsula.
Once a flagship for the Club Med experience for singles and couples, the resort here is now skewed toward families. As part of the renovation, the resort added 60 new family accommodations: 30 Family Club Rooms and 30 Deluxe Family Rooms, featuring panoramic sea views, separate bedrooms for parents and children, a pullout couch (crib service available), and a private terrace with rainshower.
The units are steps away from a coral reef, where snorkeling is permitted, the only such area in Cancun. (Club Med Cancun Yucatan is environmentally certified.)
Staying on the family trend, the resort added a Petite Club that caters to the needs of two- and three-year-olds, and complements the existing children’s clubs for those aged 4 to 17 years old.
The resort also has carved out a “boutique resort within the resort.” Known as the Jade Luxury Space, the accommodations include suites and deluxe rooms featuring more than 720 sq. ft. of space. Private services include specialized F&B, an infinity pool and social gatherings.
The resort also has enhanced its Maya Lounge, which can transition from meeting, conference and presentation space to a mix of nightclub, lounge, bar and show space.
One of the key attractions of all-inclusives is food and beverage, and Club Med Cancun Yucatan has added and redesigned several outlets, including the Argentinean-style grill and specialty restaurant, La Estancia; a new wine cellar; casual restaurant/buffet Las Cazuelas; and the reconcepted La Hacienda, which features a “baby corner” where parents may mix and mingle.
In addition, beginning Oct. 5, the resort will begin renovations on its separate conference space in order to expand its meetings offerings. The project is slated for completion in 2015.
