FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— Jim Mauer has been appointed general manager at the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa here. Mauer, a 22-year Marriott veteran, began his hospitality career at the Fort Lauderdale resort back in 1984. For the past three years, he served as area general manager of the Cleveland Marriott Downtown, where he was recently named Hotelier of the Year by the Ohio Hotel & Lodging Association. In other experience, Mauer has held positions as area general manager of the Livonia Marriott in Michigan; director of food and beverage for the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center; director of operations for Marriott’s Griffin Gate Resort in Kentucky; and assistant food and beverage director of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Mauer rejoins the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort & Spa as designers plan the finishing touches on a $25-million renovation that began in 2006. Starting in July, all 637 guestrooms and suites will undergo an extensive revitalization including new furnishings, lighting, window treatments, carpeting and artwork. The renovation is slated to be completed by the fall of 2007.
