NEW YORK—About 600 guests of the Holiday Inn Manhattan-Financial District hotel located here were evacuated from their rooms earlier today after a sprinkler pipe on the roof of the building burst and sent water seeping downward, according to local media reports.
The pipe atop the Holiday Inn Financial District burst at about 4:15 a.m. and sent water rushing down through the building, located in downtown Manhattan, the New York Fire Department told 4 New York.
In some areas, water could be seen dripping from the ceiling and pooling up on the floor. The water also seeped down to the lobby of the hotel, according to a report from CBS2. Guests were forced from their rooms and gathered in the hotel’s lobby while fire crews worked to stop the leak.
According to a statement released by IHG, many guests have been able to return to their rooms and the hotel team is working closely with its vendors to restore full operational functionality as soon as possible. IHG and the property team are working to relocate guests in any impacted rooms to nearby hotels.
Last month, IHG celebrated the grand opening of the Holiday Inn Manhattan-Financial District, which, at 50 stories and more than 452-ft. tall, is the tallest Holiday Inn property to date.
Owned by Golden Seahorse, LLC and managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts, the hotel has 492 rooms. The property is located close to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, South Street Seaport, Chinatown, Wall Street, New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank.
