LONDON—Benoy, the international firm of architects, master planners, interior and graphic designers, has unveiled the first European destination of Genting’s Resorts World venues, Resorts World at NEC, in Birmingham, U.K.
Benoy was the lead architect on Resorts World at NEC, overseeing the project from concept stage through to completion of construction. Benoy’s team provided the interior design concepts, which allowed the project to retain a cohesion throughout portraying the comprehensive ethos of Resorts World, according to the company.
Sitting on Pendigo Lake at the National Exhibition Centre within close proximity of Birmingham airport, Resorts World offers a casino, 50-unit designer outlet center, a boutique hotel and spa, a multi-screen cinema, numerous bars and restaurants and a conference and banqueting center.
“Our design strategy for Resorts World was to introduce Genting’s global brand to Europe on a grand scale meriting the significant location on Pendigo Lake and drawing consumers from the local catchment as well as the wider region,” said Andrew Tape, senior associate director. “Resorts World at NEC is a great addition to our leisure-led, mixed-use offer due to its varied offer blending together for the perfect day out, night-time excursion or weekend escape.”
A key feature of the design and construction process was the introduction of Building Information Modelling (BIM) from the outset. The design team worked together with the design consultants in BIM to improve and streamline Resorts World, reducing collaborative barriers and minimizing construction issues, according to the company.
Resorts World at NEC is Benoy’s first project in the U.K. with Malaysian-based developer Genting.
