KEY WEST, FL—The Gates of Key West, a new independent hotel with 100 guestrooms, is opening on the island of Key West, FL, in August.
According to the company, the hotel will capture the essence of Hemingway’s Key West with authentic island ambiance, residential-style interiors, regionally inspired dining and drinking and a pool deck.
The Gates tapped interior designer Andrea Henzlik of AHD in Atlanta, GA, for the design. “The challenge that was presented to me was to create a space that will be functional but not fit into a ‘mold’ of traditional hotel brand standards,” stated Henzlik. “My approach was to think outside of the box and fashion interiors that are inspired by ocean homes, with monochromatic minimalism, natural materials and textures, and splashes of color.”
The Gates’ common areas will feature neutral tones infused with bright accent colors to highlight original photography exhibited throughout by award-winning local photographer Jorge de la Torriente of De La Gallery. Design elements in the lobby include a wall of pecky cypress and a 10-foot community table.
The guestrooms will offer exposed whitewashed beams, custom platform beds of hand-washed cypress, petrified wood tables imported from Bali, and hand-selected rugs from Marrakesh.
A 2,000-square foot deck with an adjacent long-boarded Bar will surround the hotel’s swimming pool. Located on the pool deck, the hotel bar will offer regionally inspired small-plate items and snacks throughout the day, with cues taken from Cuban and traditional food truck fare.
The Gates of Key West will offer three guestroom categories to choose from: The Standard, The View and The Terrace. The Terrace guestrooms are situated around the hotel’s pool, complete with private decks. Complimentary WiFi access is available.
