Fairview Plan Requires More Funding

ST. LOUIS David Roth, the principal developer of the Fountains at Fairview hotel and convention center, has asked the City Council to resurrect the troubled project by issuing $4 million in bonds to pay for its centerpiece – a 20,000- square-foot conference center. Just a year ago, a divided City Council awarded $4 million in tax incentives to help finance the $60 million project. But Roth argues that it wasn t enough. The 48-acre project, which consists of a conference center, 120-room Sheraton Four Points hotel and a restaurant, is expected to generate 300,000 visitors annually and pump $44 million into the local economy. The City Council has yet to make its decision. (8/16/00) Source: St. Louis Post – Dispatch
