OAK BROOK, IL—The Drake Oak Brook hotel located here has officially reopened after undergoing extensive renovations. First Hospitality Group, Inc. (FHG) will manage the independent boutique hotel, owned by Jim and Tely Nagle.
Originally built in 1961 as the suburban counterpart to Chicago’s famous Drake Hotel, the Drake Oak Brook offers 84 guestrooms. The property’s traditional elements have been preserved by the recent revitalization project, which involved the exterior 11,300-sq.-ft. meeting space, 2,000-sq.-ft. outdoor patio, office space and guestrooms.
“We are pleased to be able to honor the Drake Oak Brook’s history by highlighting its unique traits,” said Bob Habeeb, president and CEO, First Hospitality Group, Inc. “We’ve kept the original murals and still offer the coveted ‘Bookbinders soup’ that has become a staple with the local community.”
Other details of the property include a piece of floral “floating” artwork composed of 1,000 pieces of glass and a massive gold-leafed table in the lobby designed by an artist who’s work also appears in the Vatican.
The boutique hotel provides access to downtown Chicago and O’Hare Airport via I-88 and I-294. It is also located near the headquarters of several major corporations, golf and polo resorts and renowned shopping center.
