WASHINGTON, DC—Renovations have been finished on the redesign of Donovan House, a Kimpton Hotel, from Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.
The renovation encompassed all 193 guestrooms and suites, elevators and hallway corridors. It features a more cosmopolitan look, according to Kimpton, with new amenities that cater to business travelers.
Boston-based CBT was tapped to reinvent Donovan House’s modern design to accommodate the business demographic.
Desks have been added to every guestroom; previously, only select rooms had dedicated workspace. The new 5-ft. dark oak-finished desks feature built-in, flip-up outlets with standard power and USB sockets. The space also offers a gray ergonomic chair and lighting from the Humanscale Horizon LED task light, which is also a part of the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.
Additionally, the rooms feature new decor with a color palette of gray and deep purple with rust-colored accents. Features also include new iridescent iris faux-leather wraparound headboards, black-and-white side tables and a custom rust-colored faux crocodile bench, a pattern that is replicated on the gray carpet. Canopy beds feature Kimpton’s signature zebra print Frette sheets and a rust-colored throw pillow. The room also features minimalistic decor, a single circular black-and-white print of the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, and a new 55-in. inset TV.
Ten of the property’s King Suites have been upgraded with a pullout gray chenille sofa bed and an oak-finished executive table with built-in outlets and gold-winged chairs, which can accommodate up to six people for a meeting.
The Donovan Suite has been updated, as well, with a new sectional sofa, patterned accent rug and hardwood floors in the living area. The area features a contemporary molecular smoked-glass chandelier above a long dark-wood table for 10, as well as a custom graphic patchwork black-and-white print of DC monuments. A pullout gray chenille sofa bed and an extra workspace have also been added.
Cocoon spiral showers, futuristic club chairs and floor-to-ceiling widows in most rooms have been retained from Studio GAIA’s original design, the company added.
