Design Errors Can Cause Lost Revenue

NEW YORK- Panelists at the Common Design Errors in Hotels 2000 seminar noted that design errors could cause a loss in revenue for hoteliers.

Panelists included: Henry Wong, president/WGA Gregersen Architects; Peter Schor, president/Dynamic Results and Institute of Bathroom Product Knowledge; John Nicolls, senior vp/architecture, design, Hyatt Hotels Corp.; and Richard Martini, senior vp/design, construction, Starwood Hotels and Resorts. They cited several key errors that could turn guests off to a hotel, like designs that don t stand the test of time; work spaces that lack sufficient space; and the absence of current bath accessories like built-in hairdryers and magnifying make-up mirrors.

These are common design errors that hoteliers inherit from designers. Some errors are a nuisance, but some are of monumental scale affecting the long-term operating costs of hotels, said Wong. These errors could be avoided if someone kept track of them. (11/13/00)
