OKLAHOMA CITY—NewcrestImage is set to complete the placement of 81 modules that form the core of its new 142-room AC Hotel here, which is slated to open in May 2017. It’s the first hotel in the city to be built using modular construction.
“The first floor of our five-story hotel features traditional construction, while the following four floors consist of 81 modules,” said Mehul Patel, chairman and CEO of Dallas-based NewcrestImage. “It’s our company’s first use of the modular concept and it enables us to deliver a high quality property with dramatically lower construction time and cost.”
Production of the modules began in June at the manufacturing facility of Guerdon Modular Buildings in Boise, ID. The modules, which include all interior FF&E, were transported to Oklahoma City by flatbed trucks, then the process of craning modules into place began last week.
“All our rooms and public areas will meet or exceed the stylish, European-inspired environment that the AC Hotel brand is known for,” adds Patel. “The final look and specifications of our property will be indistinguishable from traditional construction, but we will be faster-to-market at reduced cost and with more consistent quality control.”
Currently, NewcrestImage has a portfolio of 23 distinctive hotels, with another 14 hotels under construction or in development, including renovation of historic sites in Cincinnati, New Orleans and Houston. The company has three divisions: real estate development, construction and hotel management.
