NIAGARA FALLS, NY— The Niagara Falls area on both sides of the Canadian/US border has been getting attention from hotel developers lately as the area spruces up its image for tourist traffic with gaming and entertainment venues.
The newest announced project from Canadian Niagara Hotels, a 48-story, 5,565- room hotel, will tower over Niagara Falls, offering travelers breathtaking views.
Canadian Niagara Hotels, which owns hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues in both Niagara Falls, NY and Niagara Falls, Ontario, is moving ahead with this project and another one that, together, represent a $200-million (Canadian) private investment that will create 1,000 jobs.
The company has submitted plans to officials in Niagara Falls, Ontario, that will see the former and long vacant Kodak Tower near the Rainbow Bridge demolished and replaced with a 59-story observation tower and the 48-story hotel. The hotel is expected to open in 2008.
At the same time, Canadian Niagara is moving ahead with plans to construct a 90,000-sf indoor waterpark just behind the Brock Plaza hotel, which the company owns along Falls Avenue. The waterpark is scheduled to be completed in early 2006.
