NATIONAL REPORT—Several hotels have opened in the U.S. recently, ranging from the Southeast to California. Here are some of the new additions:
The Alder Hotel Opens in New Orleans
After an extensive, two-year renovation, the historic Bristow Tower in Uptown New Orleans is now open as the Alder Hotel, a 90-room hotel next to Ochsner Baptist, a campus of Ochsner Medical Center. As a nod to its history as a highly desirable residence for the physicians, nurses and staff at Baptist beginning in 1964, the hotel is outfitted with mid-century modern decor mixed with modern amenities.
This project was developed under a long-term lease with Ochsner Baptist. The Alder Hotel development/ownership team comprises Greg Ensslen, Chris Bellone, Woodward Alder and Valentino Investments. The Alder Hotel will be operated by Hotel Management of New Orleans (Valentino Hotel Group).
Each of the 90 rooms at the Alder Hotel offer private balconies and mid-century modern decor, including historic images of New Orleans from the Historic New Orleans Collection. Amenities include complimentary continental breakfast; complimentary daily newspaper and WiFi; complimentary adjoining parking; 24-hour Grab-N-Go market; courtyard and swimming pool; in-room safes, refrigerators, microwaves; large-screen TVs, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, coffee/tea maker; 24-hour guest laundry (coin operated); business center and conference room; and pet-friendly accommodations.
Hilton Opens Dual-Brand in Downtown Birmingham, Home2 Suites in Florida
Hilton has opened its newest dual-branded hotel in Birmingham, AL: Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Birmingham and Home2 Suites by Hilton Birmingham Downtown. With 210 rooms, this is the first dual-brand property with a Home2 Suites.
Owned by Sunbelt – G2BA LLC and managed by LBA Hospitality, Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton Birmingham Downtown are both located near Children’s Hospital, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham Zoo, Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex and Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.
“Accounting for nearly 18% of the state’s overall visitation last year, Birmingham has played a significant role in the state’s tourism industry, and the city’s robust downtown area is the perfect location to feature our first-ever dual-brand build with a Home2 Suites,” said Adrian Kurre, global head, Home2 Suites by Hilton.
A Home2 Suites has also opened in Florida: Home2 Suites by Hilton Pensacola I-10 at North Davis Hwy. is owned and managed by A & R Hospitality.
Marriott International Inc. Opens Properties in Louisiana, California
The 84-room Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in West Monroe, LA, has opened. Located at 606 Mane St., the Fairfield Inn & Suites West Monroe will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned by Sai Ram Lodging LLC and managed by Insignia Hotel Management LLC. Nearby attractions include Duck Commander, Kiroli Park, Landry Vineyards, Antique Alley, and a host of shops and restaurants on the Ouachita River at the downtown RiverMarket.
Meanwhile, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott in Belmont, CA, has also opened. The 168-suite hotel, located at 1401 Shoreway Rd., will operate as a Marriott franchise, owned and managed by OTO Development LLC of Spartanburg, SC. The hotel is located 11 miles from San Francisco International Airport, and close to downtown Belmont. It offers access to downtown San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Oracle Arena as well as Stanford University and Silicon Valley’s largest businesses including Facebook, Oracle, Nikon and Google.
