PHOENIX— Best Western hotel owners and employees are assisting the American Red Cross in its efforts to provide relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. It is doing so by way of the company’s Best Western For a Better World community service program, through which the company is trying to raise $1 million for the victims. Best Western is immediately donating $250,000 to the Red Cross. And during the next two months, Best Western will work with its 4,100 properties around the world to reach the $1-million pledge goal. Furthermore, members of Best Western’s Gold Crown Club International loyalty program will be given the chance to donate the monetary value of their accumulated points to the Red Cross. Gold Crown members will also have the option to receive bonus points for cash donations through www.bestwestern.com. Meanwhile, at Best Western’s Phoenix headquarters, company employees will be able to make monetary contributions or donate the cash value of their vacation time to the cause. Out of the total money raised by Best Western, 60% will be earmarked for the American Red Cross hurricane relief fund. The remaining amount will go toward regional marketing and community assistance programs in the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
