Atlas Hospitality’s 2006 Survey Shows 68% Jump In CA Hotel Rooms Being Built

IRVINE, CA—The number of hotel rooms under construction in California increased 68% year-over-year in 2006, according to Atlas Hospitality Group’s 2006 California New Hotel Development Survey. The number of rooms under construction in California in 2005 was 9,115. The 2006 figure was 13,341. However, only 3,265 rooms opened in 2006, which was a 15% decrease from the 3,839 rooms opened in 2005. Furthermore, hotel openings in 2006 averaged 113 rooms versus 107 rooms in 2005. Hotels under construction in 2006 averaged 148 rooms versus 114 rooms in 2005.
