CARROLLTON, TX— Accor SA is considering placing its economy Red Roof chain, which operates approximately 350 hotels in the U.S., on the block. According to press reports, the proposed asset sale is part of a larger restructuring that will also include a repositioning of Accors upper upscale Sofitel brand. Red Roof along with the economy Motel 6 chain is managed by Accor North America, which is based here. Of the 350 RedRoof Inns, approximately 250 are company owned with the remainder being franchises. Lodging analysts indicated that a sale could be valued at up to $6 billion. No timeframe was given for a final decision on the sale.
