WYTHEVILLE, VA—Ascend Hotel Collection recently added the historic Bolling Wilson Hotel to its collection of independent properties.

“The Bolling Wilson Hotel seamlessly merges historic charm with modern amenities and offers guests a truly special travel experience,” said Michael Murphy, SVP of upscale brands for Choice Hotels International. “Each member hotel within the Ascend Hotel Collection provides a distinct and memorable experience that brings the local culture to life. The Bolling Wilson Hotel is no exception. This hotel does a superb job of delivering an exceptional guest experience.”

Cornerstone Hospitality, a Virginia-based management company, manages the Bolling Wilson Hotel.

“We are thrilled and honored that The Bolling Wilson is now part of the membership program of the Ascend Hotel Collection, a network of independent hotels associated with Choice Hotels. Joining the Ascend Hotel Collection allows our guests to earn points for staying with us through the Choice Privileges guest loyalty program, while allowing us to maintain our own unique identity,” said Kimberly L. Christner, president and CEO of Cornerstone Hospitality. “This building has been an integral part of the community since the 1920s and, as we focus on bringing the hotel back to its original grandeur in a modern way, the Ascend Hotel Collection will help us to reach more travelers and establish the Bolling Wilson as a premier destination.”

The property dates back to 1927. In 2010, it was purchased by Bill and Farron Smith of Smith Enterprises, and redesigned in homage to Wytheville’s most prominent citizen, Edith Bolling Wilson, wife to President Woodrow Wilson. Bolling Wilson’s childhood home was across the street from where the hotel stands today.

The 30-room, four-floor hotel features different decor themes on each level based on Mrs. Wilson’s interests and passions, according to the property. Guestrooms are designed and decorated around her love of orchids, canaries and fine bourbons. The rooftop terrace, called The Perch, offers drinks and appetizers with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
