INTERNATIONAL REPORT—New properties are opening in China, including Minor Hotels expanding its M Collection in the country and the Edition brand coming to Shanghai.

Minor Hotels To Bring M Collection to Two Cities

Minor Hotels has signed two new management contracts in China under the company’s established M Collection brand of hotels and bespoke travel experiences.

Partnering with Zhuhai Da Heng Qin Company Limited, Hengqin Zhuhai will be the first M Collection-branded hotel in China. Scheduled to open in 2020 M Collection Hengqin Zhuhai is located at the heart of Pearl River Delta along a mountain top reservoir with peaceful surroundings and mountain views in the southern corner of Zhuhai.

Hengqin Zhuhai’s 100 keys will be a collection of suites and pool villas. The hotel will also offer an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a teahouse and a lobby lounge. Other facilities include fitness and gym facilities, swimming pool, kids club and spa.

The second resort to be signed under the M Collection brand in China is a 54-key all-villa resort in Hangzhou Yuhang, in the Zhejiang Province, scheduled to be completed in 2022.

The 54 keys will consist of 18 suites and 36 villas. Facilities include and an all-day dining restaurant, a Pan-Asian themed restaurant, a continental restaurant, wine cellar, VIP Club, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a wellness center, luxury forest mountaintop spa, an organic farm and agricultural activities for guests.

Minor Hotels currently operates three properties in China under the Anantara brand in Xishuangbanna, Sanya and Guiyang, and has a further strong pipeline in the region across all brands.

Shanghai Edition Debuts

The Shanghai Edition is housed in the former headquarters of Shanghai Power Company on Nanjing Rd., along the tree-lined Huang Pu River port on the Bund.

This Art Deco monument houses the public area of the hotel, comprising a magnificent lobby, Michelin-starred Chef Jason Atherton’s new restaurant, Shanghai Tavern, and a spa as well as multiple bars, night club, rooftop and meeting and event areas. As well as being updated and renovated, the heritage-protected historical building now flows into the skyscraper development, designed to coexist and harmonize with the historical structure, while bringing it into the present day.

In the new tower, 145 rooms and suites are accompanied by an array of wining and dining spaces, including HIYA, a new Japanese restaurant by Jason Atherton on the 27th floor and Shanghai’s incarnation of Punch Room, the sophisticated cocktail lounge first made famous at The London Edition and Roof, a garden rooftop bar with 360-degree views of Shanghai.
