DALLAS Wyndham International is developing its first Golden Door Spa in an urban location.

Planned for the Wyndham Anatole Hotel near downtown Dallas, the new $4 million Golden Door Spa will be renovated from the existing 35,000-square-foot Veranda Club fitness center located behind the hotel.

Construction for the new Japanese-themed spa is set to begin this December with completion slated for July 2002.

“We want to build one [Golden Door Spa] every 18 months,” said a spokesperson from the company. “We want to make sure we re adding them to properties that make sense, so of course we re starting with our luxury and resort properties.”

Wyndham acquired the original Golden Door Spa in Escondido, CA in 1998 and has since grown its Golden Door portfolio to five spas. The next Golden Door slated for completion is The Boulders, which will be located next to the Wyndham Luxury Resort in Carefree, AZ.

“The Boulders will open this fall, and as that finishes we ll be starting construction on the Anatole [spa],” said the spokesperson.

The new Anatole property will offer a traditional Japanese atmosphere, beginning with an entrance featuring oversized golden doors and a footbridge that extends over Koi ponds. It will feature a mind/body and movement studio with tai-chi and aerobics, 16 treatment rooms, and salon.

Wyndham plans to continue adding Golden Door spas to urban locations, particularly to those cities lacking large, full-service spa facilities.

“Dallas has nothing like the Golden Door,” the spokesperson said. “It will be a great product for the city as well as the guests.” (5/15/01) Diana M. Rodriguez
