NEW YORK—The world’s tallest Holiday Inn, a 50-story, 490-room, full-service hotel at 99 Washington St., just three blocks south of the World Trade Center site, will open here on Oct. 24.
Gene Kaufman Architect (GKA) designed the hotel in collaboration with Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman & Associates Architects (GSKA), which created the façade.
The 176,600-sq.-ft. Holiday Inn has a low-rise base that complements the surrounding streetscape. It is topped by a tower with graduated setbacks that enable an usually large number of rooms to have views of the city, the harbor and the Hudson River. The multifaceted façade, with its silver cladding that captures and reflects the light, brightens the street-level pedestrian landscape.
Design veteran Gene Kaufman, founder of GKA and principal of GSKA, commented, “This arresting and monumental structure will play a critical role in completing the transformation of Lower Manhattan from a daytime-only business area to a 24/7 destination for residents and travelers alike.”
The hotel offers includes a guest lounge, a full-service restaurant and bar, a fitness center, meeting facilities and complimentary in-room Internet access.
