MIAMI Hollywood film actor Will Smith, chairman of Treyball Development, a hotel development firm, has emerged as a possible partner in Broward County s long-delayed 500-room convention center hotel project.
“Our company stands ready to make a proposal to Broward County to assist in the development of the hotel,” said a letter to County Commissioners signed by Will Smith s brother, Treyball Development President Harry Smith.
Commission Vice Chairperson Kristin Jacobs declined to comment on the letter. Consultant Robert Hazard of Strategic Advisory Group, said the simplest way to get the hotel built is for the county to sell $103 million in tax-exempt bonds. He said the hotel could draw an extra 576,916 room nights with an economic impact of $144 million over five years. (3/14/01)
