INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Hotel Business takes a look at some international properties that have opened or are slated to open. Here are five of them:
Kempinski Hotels
In Riga, Latvia, the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga, a Kempinski Hotel, is set to open in October. The property will have 141 rooms and suites, two restaurants and two bars, six meeting rooms, including the grand ballroom, a spa and wellness facility.

Nobis Hotel
The Nobis Hotel Copenhagen has opened in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is housed in a historic 59,000 sq. ft. landmark building from 1903, once home to the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. Set between the Tivoli Gardens and the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum, the 77-room hotel is the Nobis Group’s first property outside of its native Sweden. A Scandinavian style permeates the hotel’s restaurant, public spaces and its 77 rooms and three suites setting the tone for relaxation, according to the company.
The Vera
The Vera, an urban boutique hotel, is set to open this November in the heart of Tel Aviv, Israel. Accommodations will include 39 rooms in four categories: classic, deluxe, superior and garden room. Other amenities will include a bar, spa treatment room, and two communal rooftop terraces.
It is the first property for Israeli hotelier and entrepreneur Danny Tamari, whose vision of a distinctive local anthology, attained through a strong focus on the collaboration with local designers and brands, permeates throughout the hotel’s high-quality amenities, services and furnishings, according to the company.
Protea Hotels
Protea Hotels by Marriott, part of Marriott International Inc., has opened the Protea Hotel by Marriott, Owerri Select in South-Eastern Nigeria, further consolidating its presence in the country. The 90-room hotel, developed by African Capital Alliance, an investment firm, and Kunoch Limited, is located in Owerri city, the capital of Imo State.
“The opening of Protea Hotel by Marriott, Owerri Select, illustrates our confidence in the potential of Nigeria and is in line with our commitment to grow in strategic secondary cities across the continent,” said Volker Heiden, VP of Protea Hotels by Marriott, Marriott International. “The recent expansion of the city’s airport, will give the city better accessibility, which we are confident will further drive business travel.”
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has been appointed by global real estate investment firm Qatari Diar to manage a new, ultra-luxury hotel located on Grosvenor Square in London’s Mayfair district.
Set to be housed in the building, which currently serves as the U.S. Embassy, the hotel will be the second Rosewood property in London and will open as its sixth property in Europe. The property will offer 137 guestrooms and suites, as well as a variety of dining and entertainment spaces, including five gourmet restaurants. Other amenities will include a signature spa, six flagship retail spaces and a grand ballroom with space for up to 1,000 guests.
