NATIONAL REPORT—The industry is seeing some activity up North with projects in metropolitan hubs and secluded destinations. Here’s a look at some of the recent hotel openings in New York and New England:

NYC Hotel Welcomes New Design, Refreshed Rooms
AKA is debuting its newest and sixth New York City property, AKA Tribeca. Residential interior designer Jennifer Post has reimagined the lobby and lounge of the hotel with modern flare—making it her first hospitality project. The hotel has 100 guestrooms and is also debuting a new collection of rooms, the Platinum Collection, a selection of stylish rooms reimagined by Nicholas Cardone, with custom furnishings, marble baths and rain showers. This is AKA’s first daily-stay hotel in its portfolio with the rest of its portfolio being hotel residences.

CitizenM to Deliver Brand Signatures in Boston
CitizenM has landed above Boston’s North Station. The 272-room CitizenM hotel is due to open on Aug. 5 in Boston’s North End, locally known as “Little Italy.” CitizenM Boston North Station was built in collaboration with design firm concrete Amsterdam and Gensler as the executive architect firm. The hotel has a living room open to the public, with books, art, designer furniture and designated working areas; an outdoor terrace; CollectionM retail space; CanteenM dining area with 24/7 grab-and-go food and drinks; and SocietyM, six meeting rooms open to the public.

Home2 Suites by Hilton Opens in Rhode Island
Home2 Suites by Hilton has opened Home2 Suites by Hilton Smithfield Providence in Smithfield, RI. Owned and managed by RudraH Hospitality LLC, Home2 Suites by Hilton Smithfield Providence has 100 suites, Spin2 Cycle fitness center, Home2 MKT for grab-and-go items, Inspired Table, a complimentary daily breakfast and an indoor pool. The property is close to Rivers Casino, Roger Williams Zoo and downtown Providence.

Lark Hotels Expands Beachy Property in Block Island
Lark Hotels has opened Block Island Beach House in Block Island, RI, renovated by Boston area design firm Elder & Ash. Following the 2019 summer season, Block Island Beach House will expand prior to reopening in May 2020. The expansion will include the addition of pool and oceanside cottages and suites. An outdoor event space close to Crescent Beach will also open in 2020. In addition to its 31 guestrooms, amenities include three F&B concepts and multiple indoor and outdoor spaces.
