PROVIDENCE, RI— The state-owned Westin providence hotel here may soon be sold as the Rhode Island Convention Center Authority board has agreed to solicit bids for the property, according to published reports. Any potential sale would reportedly require the buyer to develop a minimum of 200 new rooms next to the 384-room hotel. The board also approved an option to solicit a request from builders who aren’t interested in buying the existing hotel, but who want to develop a separate hotel on other state –owned property adjacent to the Westin. In such a scenario, the state would continue to own the Westin Providence.
