MIAMI BEACH— The South Beach mansion where Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace was shot and killed is being converted into a posh hotel and restaurant. The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board voted unanimously to allow the current owner, Peter Loftin, to renovate the 20,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style palazzo where Versace once lived. The new hotel, expected to open by mid-December, will feature 15 suites and a world-class restaurant. Room prices will range from $2,000 to $6,000 a night, according to The Miami Herald.
