SAN DIEGO—Scottsdale, AZ-based Ventana Hotels and Resorts has been awarded a management contract here for the historic Lafayette Hotel, owned by Hampstead Partners. Plans call for a repositioning of the hotel as a full-service property with all modern services and amenities. Hampstead Partners is in the process of restoring the landmark hotel to its former grandeur. In addition to completely refurbishing the historic 73-room main building fronting El Cajon Boulevard, Hampstead will be adding 140 new condominiums on the south end of the property. Since opening on July 1, 1946, the Lafayette has been a celebrity magnet. Among its famous guests were Bob Hope, Lana Turner, Ava Gardner and Betty Grable. Ventana manages hotels in Floridas South Beach market: The WinerHaven Hotel and The Blue Moon Hotel Bar. It is returning to San Diego after repositioning of Hotel La Jolla.
