LAS VEGAS William Weidner, president of Las Vegas Sands, the parent company of The Venetian, spoke at the American Gaming Summit about The Venetian s business strategy, which includes a proposed 1,000-room addition to the resort. Weidner emphasized that the increased convention business in Las Vegas and the high demand for guestrooms would benefit from The Venetian s 1,000-room addition, currently in the planning stages.
Weidner added that overall occupancy in Las Vegas increased to 94.4% during the fourth quarter of 2000, compared with 82.9% during the fourth quarter of 1999. He said that the increase in demand has caused The Venetian to turn away a number of large room reservation requests, and that the proposed 1,000-room addition, assuming ongoing comparable demand, would fit into the companys overall business plan to enhance revenue from increased room sales.
