WASHINGTON, DC By 2003, 5.9 million Japanese travelers will visit the U.S., representing a 19% increase over 1999, according to a report conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America. The Japan Travel View 2000 stated that Japanese outbound travel is up 52% since 1989, and long-haul travel (outside Asia) is up 54% during the same period. The U.S. was the biggest beneficiary of the surging Japanese outbound market, totaling more than 4.8 million Japanese travelers, or 59% of the long-haul market. (1/2/01)
