HOUSTON— The Valencia Group— a hotel ownership, management and development company headquartered here— has named Matthew Nuss vp/operations and Carlos Flores corporate controller. In his new position, Nuss’ responsibilities encompass all aspects of the operations of the company’s Hotel Valencia brand of luxury hotels, including guest experience, service and product standards, sales and marketing, and financial accountability. Nuss was most recently general manager of the Omni Houston Hotel, and was singled out as the “Ideal General Manager of the Year for Customer Service” for all Omni Hotels. Previous assignments with Omni included stints with the Omni Austin Southpark and Omni Berkshire Place in New York City and the Omni Royal Orleans. Nuss’ earlier hospitality experience also includes positions with The Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, The Westin Crown Center in Kansas City, and The Westin Cypress Creek in Fort Lauderdale. As for Flores, his new duties encompass all accounting and financial operations for the Valencia Group corporate offices as well as the hotel accounting operations of the company’s Hotel Valencia branded hotels. Flores’ most recent position was regional controller for performance management – international, a division of Wyndham International. Prior to that, the 28-year veteran of the hospitality industry served with the Camino Real del Paso Norte in El Paso, TX, and also spent some 18 years with Westin Hotels & Resorts.
