HOUSTON, TX— The Houston office of Turner Construction Company has been awarded a $31.5 million contract to build the new Marriott hotel, conference center, and parking garage at the Town Square Center in Sugar Land, Texas for Stormont Hospitality Group, the City of Sugar Land, and Sugar Land Properties. Turner Construction Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Turner Corporation, the nations leading general builder. Construction is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2003. Turner is the general contractor on the project. The architect is Cooper Carry Architects of Atlanta and the interior design/lighting consultant is WDG Interior Architecture, Dallas. The nine-story Marriott hotel will consist of 300 guest rooms and suites. The two-story conference center will adjoin the hotel via an interior, landscaped courtyard and also be accessible by a separate, covered entrance. The conference centers 26,500-sq.-ft. of meeting space will include a 15,500-sq.-ft. ballroom, eight breakout/meeting rooms, business center, boardroom, 184-seat restaurant, lounge, gourmet coffee shop, and a health facility which features an outdoor swimming pool and landscaped deck. The new precast concrete parking garage consists of four-stories of above- grade parking, totaling 127,000-square feet.
