As of late, the luxury segment has suffered the worst since 9/11 and the economy turned south last year. Trust noted industry statistics have indicated that the segment in the United States has suffered double-digit losses in room revenues, and has failed to recoup even as the overall economy is showing signs of recovery. Nonetheless, Trust stands by its forecast, pointing to the positive results of the hotel Electronic Distribution Network Associations (HEDNA) annual survey (called Global Distribution System Hotel Reservations). The survey, said Trust, found that despite the challenges of 2001, GDS delivered 46,753,000 net reservations for hotels— an increase compared to 1999 levels (43,781,000), but still a 4.2% decline from 2000 levels (48,787,000).
