LOS ANGELES Casino operator Aztar Corp. will spend $225 million on a major addition to its Tropicana in Atlantic City, adding 500 hotel rooms and as many as 50 shops, clubs and restaurants to the resort, a company spokesperson said. The expanded facilities will be in a new tower with 200,000 square feet of entertainment space and 20,000 square feet of convention space, said Aztar spokesman Joe Cole.
Construction on the tower, which will be built on 3.5 acres next to the existing building, is scheduled to begin by the end of this year and wrap up in the second half of 2003. The Atlantic City Tropicana will have more than 2,200 guestrooms after the new tower is added. (2/5/01)
