STAMFORD, CT— Due to tighter household budgets and concerns about increasing workloads at the office, two in five Americans say they will not take a summer vacation this year, according to InsightExpress, an on-line market research firm. According to a study recently conducted by InsightExpress, those who plan to forgo summer vacations mainly point to economic concerns as reasons their trips will be sacrificed: — 35% cited a tighter budget this year. — 19% are unable to get away from work due to a heavier workload this year. — 12% can not get away because they are unemployed/looking for a job. — 10% stated they had used budgeted vacation funds for other necessities. — 6% noted the unstable economy made it difficult to take off work. The study further found that 64% respondents will be traveling by car with only 31% flying to their chosen destinations. It is economics, not security, thats influencing travel plans. While 28% said they were less likely to fly than they were a year ago, very few Americans (3.5%) cite security concerns as impacting their decision to take a summer vacation, and an even smaller number (1%) factored the security concerns associated with major destinations as a reason not to take a vacation.
