CHICAGO— TravelCLICKs eMonitor results for the fourth quarter of 2001 show that worldwide hotel room nights and revenue booked electronically through the Global Distribution Systems (GDSs) decreased versus the same period last year. However, booking activity during the quarter showed a pattern of continuing recovery following the losses in hotel occupancy suffered after September 11th. Room nights booked electronically were down 12% over the fourth quarter of 2000, while revenue was off 21% as average rate decreased by 11%. However, October, November, and December had decreasing percentage declines of 24%, 10%, and 9%, respectively, compared to last year. Electronic bookings for the entire year of 2001 showed a decline of 2.5% compared with 2000. Fourth quarter results played a large role in this slight drop-off, since prior to September year to date results for GDS booking growth were positive.
