CHICAGO— TravelCLICKs eMonitor results for the first quarter of 2002 show that worldwide hotel room nights and revenue booked electronically through the Global Distribution Systems (GDSs) decreased versus the same period lastyear. However, booking activity during the quarter showed recovery following the unprecedented losses in hotel occupancy experienced in the fourth quarter. Room nights booked electronically were down 10% from the first quarter of 2001, while revenue was off 18% as average rate dropped 9%. The first quarter improved from the fourth quarter 2001 revenue loss of 21% on a year-over-year basis. Average length of stay declined slightly from 2.15 nights during the first quarter of 2001 to 2.13 nights this year, according to the report.
