IRVINE, CA— Hotels and other public locations will soon have access to a newly launched wireless service offering called “hotspot” from Toshiba’s Computer Systems Group. Toshiba, which is deploying hundreds of locations across North America in the coming months and plans to have 10,000 by the end of the year, designed the system to provide instant Internet access to travelers. The Wireless Broadband HotSpot solution allows end users with Wi-Fi enabled notebooks or PDA’s to connect with the access point, or “hotspot,” to launch an Internet browser and access e-mail, surf the Web, watch streaming video or download multimedia presentations. Accenture was selected by Toshiba to deliver the business and operational support functions, including network operations, billing and settlements processing and help desk support for end users.
