MIAMI— The 242-room Palms South Beach has officially opened for business here after a soft opening that began this past November. The property is owned by the Krause family. Formerly the Miami Beach Ocean Resort, the hotel recently underwent a $6 million renovation directed by designer Patrick Kennedy. Guests enter through massive colonial doors into a lobby featuring Bombay club fans with onion and umbrella grasses behind the reception desk. The lobby expands into the Great Room, a library-style lounge featuring giant indoor palm trees and the Palm Garden Grille. Guestrooms offer custom-designed wood furniture, high-speed Internet access, and CD alarm clocks.
