NEW YORK—The Plaza Hotel here recently unveiled 29 newly renovated rooms called The Legacy Suites, which are designed to be evocative of an Upper East Side home, according to the property.
As the name suggests, The Legacy Suites pay homage to the rich history and heritage of The Plaza. Named for the iconic locations and celebrated individuals who have been part of the hotel’s history, the suites feature decor that is contemporary, yet complementary to the historic elements of the building.
“The residential style of our suites makes them the perfect escape for a quick getaway or an extended stay,” said George Cozonis, managing director of The Plaza. “Classic crown molding is juxtaposed against contemporary works of art and lavish fabrics, adding a vibrant textural element to the space. Dramatic lighting and beautifully finished woodwork complete the look, and the entire experience is complemented by a service experience designed for our most discerning guests.”
New York-based Champalimaud has redesigned the suites, which, inspired by the property’s proximity to Central Park, are filled with floral and botanical elements.
The space utilizes a variety of custom-designed furniture pieces, including lounge chairs with carved gilded legs, and a custom-designed lighting piece sporting amber-hued crystals in a circular torrent. The space’s casement pieces, coffee and side tables are covered in mirrored glass, black lacquer, marble and gold leaf.
A mixture of velvets, leathers and silks comprise the space’s textiles program, which features rich chevron patterns combined with abstracted mark-making adding to the overall subtly and opulence of the room, according to the hotel. The custom-designed art program showcases a mixture of New York City’s famed cultural landmarks including the ballet, contemporary abstract painting and classical still-lives.
Additionally, the suites include a number of amenities such as a dedicated reservation line and a personal pre-arrival concierge. White glove butler service is included and each suite has a direct connection to the concierge desk. The guest service team prepares each suite to the guest’s preference, such as personalized stationery and in-residence business cards.
The Legacy Suites offer one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom options, including the dramatic Hardenbergh Terrace Suite, which features two floors of expansive living space and an outdoor terrace.
