NEW YORK The Benjamin Hotel here, which opened almost two years ago, has been successful in competing with some of the biggest names in hospitality in one of the hottest markets.
According to John Moser, general manager of the four-star boutique hotel owned by Manhattan East Suites, the hotel performed 20% better than projected for the year 2000. “And we just finished $200,000 (in business) over last years January,” said Moser.
A strong emphasis on service and comfort has kept business strong, said Moser. The hotel recently launched a Sleep Concierge, which helps guests maximize their sleep experience. Among other amenities, the Sleep Concierge offers a menu of 12 pillows guests can choose from.
Also, The Benjamins custom bed has been a hit with guests, said Moser. He noted that the hotel has sold 300 of the beds, and plans to provide information on how to buy the mattress on the hotels website by the end of the month. (2/12/01) Shannon McMullen
