NASHVILLE, TN— Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell paid a surprise visit to the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center here April 25 to ceremoniously present a special proclamation to Asian American Hotel Owners Association Chairman “Dan” Patel officially welcoming AAHOA’s 2002 annual convention to this Tennessee city. Despite the reputation enjoyed by Nashville in general— and the Gaylord Opryland complex in particular— as opulent meeting destinations, Mayor Purcell indicated there was no getting around the impact some 3,000 conference attendees could be expected to have on the area as well as the local lodging marketplace.—Michael Billig
