SAN JOSE, CA— Teledex, a provider of telephones for the hospitality industry said it has named Dr. Prashant Waknis as senior VoIP software engineer. The hiring of Waknis, who is acclaimed as an experienced leader in developing networking and telecommunications software, “signals Teledex’s increased commitment of resources to the area of telephony technology, especially in the hospitality industry,” said Ron Lesniak, Teledex president and CEO. Waknis holds a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from Vanderbilt University, and comes to Teledex from Sigpro, of Mountain View, CA, where he led VoIP development projects as senior development engineer. At Sigpro, Dr. Waknis successfully brought a Cisco SCCP protocol-based IP telephone from design phase to completion of certification, said Teledex. Prior to Sigpro, Waknis had been involved with significant networking and IP telephony projects at such companies as SSE Telecom of Fremont, CA, where he implemented VoIP features in the multi-protocol router to ensure IP quality of service; Globalstar, of San Jose, CA, where he designed a network for high-speed Internet access for airplanes; and Federal Express, of Memphis, TN, where he designed and implemented FedEx’s backbone and access networks, which are used to connect FedEx facilities nationwide.
