BOMBAY, INDIA— Business and leisure travelers looking for relaxation and overall physical and mental well-being can retreat to Tamara, the new Ayurveda spa at the recently renovated Taj Malabar, Cochin, part of Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces. The hotel is located in the city of Cochin in the Indian state of Kerala in southern India, the birthplace of the ancient healing system of ayurveda. Tamara provides authentic ayurvedic treatments under the direct supervision of resident ayurvedic physicians who help tailor treatments according to individual needs. Some treatments include: Abhyangam – the application of medicated oil over the body to alleviate fatigue and improve sleep; Dhara – the patient is made to lie on a special wooden bed and medicated oil, milk or buttermilk is poured in a steady stream on the head. This is followed by a warm water bath and prescribed to improve memory, treat migraines, ear-nose diseases, spondylitis and paraplegia. Tamara is managed exclusively for Taj by the Ayushman Ayurvedic Trust. The spa offers packages year-round ranging from one- to 7 days. The Taj Malabar hotel features rooms with cable TV, Internet connection and mini bar. Other highlights at the property include an infinity swimming pool aptly named Aquarius, a fitness center, business center, a recreation room for indoor games, a small library with a collection of books and magazines and a beauty parlor. The Taj Malabar is the group’s second hotel featuring an ayurveda spa – The Ayurveda Centre at the Taj Residency in Calicut, Kerala opened in 1999.
