NEW YORK Web company Tablet has joined with hotelBANK, a subsidiary of MICROS Systems, to launch Tablet Bookings, a web-based booking engine that lets hotels conduct on-line, real-time bookings on their own websites.
The technology provides a user interface that can be customized for each hotel property. The first of the site s clients is the Standard Hollywood in Los Angeles.
Tablet executives, including Laurent Vernhes and Michael Davis formerly of the digital design shop Razorfish last summer met with hotelBANK s technology and marketing groups to implement the hotelBANK proprietary booking engine.
Executives say that this booking engine which provided an information backbone and property management expertise combined with Tablet, which provided the digital design created a customized interface that will facilitate the use of Internet-based booking technology for hotels.
The system also lets consumers make real-time reservations, confirmations and cancellations in a secure environment.
Tablet meanwhile in April at www.tabletonline.com will provide booking access to a portfolio of 300 hotels around the world. That number is expected to grow to 1,500 within two years.
Also involved in Tablet are well-known hoteliers Andre Balazs and Chris Blackwell. (1/9/01)
